Toolstop Podcast #37 – iPads and Power Tools

Mark is joined this week by Rob Dolby and they have a chat about Rob’s conversion to DIY as means of saving cash. Rob’s used laser mitre saws and he shares his tip on his best DIY investment; clamps! You can find Rob on Top of the Pods and Games Weasel.

Download the podcast.
We also have an interview with Doug from Soundman Car Audio about his installation of an iPad into a Toyota, the first time such a feat had been attempted. Of course, Doug and his team use…power tools. Watch the videos on his YouTube channel to see the range and variety, including Dremel multi-tools and Bosch jigsaws. Doug also tackles the issue of safety; is it actually safe to drive around with an iPad in your dash?

Neil returns next week and we’ll be hearing from Leica abou the new DISTO DXT laser meter and hopefully be joined again by Lira to get her take on this new product from Leica in her capacity as an architect.

Brand New on Toolstop – Leica Disto DXT laser measurer

We’re really excited that Leica dropped off a demonstration unit of their brand new Disto DXT laser measurer!

Some of the features on this model include;
• distance measuring from 5 centimetres to 70 metres
• measurement accuracy within 1.5mm
• timer delayed measuring
• memory recall of the last 10 measurements or screen displays

Graham Reid from Leica’s precision tools informs me that the big feature of the Disto DXT is its IP65 rating. This means that it is the best protected laser measurer on the market when it comes to dust and water.

Listen out for an interview with Graham on this week’s Toolstop Podcast.

Toolstop Podcast Edition #34 – Lira Luis

Listen to the podcast

This week Neil and Mark are joined via Skype by American architect Lira Luis. This interview came as a result of this Tweet from Lira;
Screen shot 2010-06-25 at 14.16.45

This led to a Twitter conversation about power tools and our invitation for her to join us on the podcast.

Lira chats about the projects she’s worked on, including her time spent on Frank Wright’s Taliesin property where she used power tools to cut and finish limestone. Lira also comments on the Ryobi EWS1366 1350W 190mm (7 1/2″) Laser Circular Saw 110V. Plus she tells us about a bed that’s designed and is in the process of building (see photos below).

Finally, Neil and I catch up regarding our teams’ progress through the World Cup.
